The most troubling risk is not logistical but existential. As Ukraine reaches further into Russia's strategic depth, it crosses thresholds that Moscow has repeatedly described as red lines. Striking an early-warning radar or a strategic bomber base is not an economic nuisance; it is a challenge to Russia's core deterrent. The rational cost-exchange model assumes the adversary responds in kind. It does not account for the possibility of an irrational response, or a rational one that chooses escalation because losing a bomber is more costly than escalating. Humanity is the ultimate protocol, and protocols fail when their assumptions are violated. Auditing ethics before auditing assets is a discipline I have tried to apply to every project I touch; here, the ethics are unavoidably murky. What remains, then, is an observation about how this war is being financed. The 1,000-drone figure should be read as a request for continued capital, a warning to Russia, and a piece of marketing collateral. In the coming months, the most meaningful datasets will not come from casualty reports or field maps.
